Latest Instagram update: what you need to know

To combat undesirable content that collects “Like”, false subscribers or promotes artificial sharing, Instagram is changing its community rules. Contrary to what you may have read or heard, these new terms of use will not represent a disruption to your influencer marketing strategy

Instagram strives to be an authentic and unbiased social network

As Instagram explains in its FAQs, the goal is to combat undesirable content and help content creators promote meaningful and authentic interactions. Undesirable content on Instagram is content that may mislead or deceive its users so that the content creator can benefit from more visibility.

Absolutely all users of the Instagram application, whether they are brands, influencers or “lambda” users, are not allowed to offer money or giveaways of money in exchange for likes, subscribers, comments or other interaction. As Instagram also explains, they must also not create or post content that “engages in, promotes, encourages, facilitates, or admits to the offering, solicitation or trade of fake and misleading user reviews or ratings”.

What the Evolution of the Instagram Community Rules Changes for Brands

This applies to Instagram accounts that run contests with money to be won in return for “like”, comments or opinions. As a brand, you will therefore be able to continue to offer contests to win your products and/or services. Contests through content creators are still allowed.

As you know, these Instagram rules of use may still evolve, and it is important to keep up to date. Indeed, updates are frequent, because today’s social networks are constantly evolving to adapt to and protect users.
